Effective: March 13, 2025
1. Introduction
The Rotation ("we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use our website, mobile application, or related services (the "Service"). By using the Service, you consent to the practices described in this policy.
This Privacy Policy is incorporated into our Terms of Service. Please read both documents carefully.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly, information generated when you use the Service, and information from third parties.
2a. Information You Provide
- Account information: When you sign in with Google, we receive your email address, display name, profile photo, and a unique identifier from Google. We do not receive or store your Google password.
- Profile information: When you create or edit a dating profile, you provide your display name, birthday, bio, location (as text, e.g., "Los Angeles, CA"), and photos. Profile information is visible to other users when your profile is shown in the rotation.
- Communications: When you send chat messages in the live chat or direct messages to matches, we store the content of those messages.
- Match activity: When you swipe (heart or pass) on profiles or accept match requests, we store this activity to operate the matching feature.
2b. Information Collected Automatically
- Usage data: We collect information about how you use the Service, including features used, actions taken, and when you access the Service.
- Device and technical data: We may collect your IP address, device type, operating system, browser type, and similar technical information necessary to operate and secure the Service.
2c. Information We Do Not Collect
We do not collect precise geolocation (GPS) data. The location you provide in your profile is optional text you enter yourself (e.g., city name), not your device's physical location.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the Service (e.g., displaying profiles, enabling chat, managing matches and DMs);
- Create and manage your account and profile;
- Process your swipes and match requests;
- Store and display your chat messages and direct messages;
- Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms of Service;
- Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests from authorities;
- Improve the Service, fix bugs, and develop new features;
- Communicate with you about the Service (e.g., account-related notices).
4. How We Share Your Information
We may share your information in the following circumstances:
- With other users: Your profile (name, photos, bio, location, age) is visible to users when your profile appears in the rotation. Your display name and photo may appear in chat messages and match requests. When you match with someone, both users can see each other's profile information and exchange direct messages.
- Service providers: We use Firebase (Google) for authentication, database, storage, and hosting. Your data is processed by these providers in accordance with their privacy policies. We do not sell your data to third parties.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or government request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of The Rotation, our users, or others.
- Business transfers: If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
5. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on servers operated by Firebase (Google Cloud). We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you the Service. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it for legal, regulatory, or safety purposes (e.g., to comply with law enforcement requests or resolve disputes).
Some information may remain in backups for a limited time after deletion. Chat messages and other content may be retained by us or our service providers for a period necessary to operate the Service and comply with legal obligations.
7. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information:
- Access: You may request access to the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction: You can update your profile information at any time through the Service settings.
- Deletion: You may delete your account through the Service. This will remove your profile and associated data, subject to our retention practices above.
- Opt-out: You may opt out of marketing communications by following the unsubscribe links in our emails or contacting us.
If you are in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you may also have the right to restrict processing, object to processing, and data portability. You may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
8. Children's Privacy
The Service is not intended for anyone under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 18, please contact us immediately and we will take steps to delete such information.
9. International Data Transfers
Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence. These countries may have different data protection laws. By using the Service, you consent to the transfer of your information to the United States and other countries where our service providers operate.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page and update the effective date. If we make material changes, we may notify you by email or through a notice in the Service. Your continued use of the Service after the changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
